Hello enchanting beings, my name is Fatima, maker of magic & peddler of stories, the co-founder & chief branding officer at Zehra Studio & today I wanted to make a special announcement!
Welcome to the pilot episode of Magic of Myth. A passion project of mine that I am super stoked to be finally launching. My goal with this series is to just... talk. Ha! But really, I have been wanting to create a space for myself and folks who feel passionately about our storytelling culture, the myths we share to connect & inspire one another whether that's through film, music, visual arts, &/or social media.
Since I can remember, I have been a sucker for stories. That is how I made sense of the world around me, how I connected w/ other humans and how I found my vocation: brand development & design.
Growing up I spent my summers reading classical & contemporary novels from fantasy & sci-fi to drama & mystery. I'd spend my evenings watching movies that my papa would curate. I'd make myself mixtapes- like actual mixtapes w/ cassettes and all. Basically, I was constantly consumed & inspired by stories around me.
However, I didn't really realize how important stories have been for me and our world till I read Sapiens by Yuval Harari. The thesis of the book is that we as species have come as far as we have, while no other species has been come close, is solely due to our ability to tell stories. It's the stories that have united us, inspired us to cultivate cultures & communities and it is stories that continue to evolve our collectives. After reading this, I was set on a path to fully embrace my vocation as a storyteller.
I continued reading, polishing my understanding of storytelling & explored several career paths that incorporated it. I delved into photography, copywriting, social media management, design & finally came to find my soul's vocation: brand development which for me is the culmination of everything I've explored & is fully powered by my love for storytelling as that's the main potion I use to activate the magic of my clients' brands.
So back to this series!
While I love what I do, I had been craving an outlet where I just play. There is no agenda, no strategy- Just me being me and talking about the one thing I am most passionate about: stories.
This series has been directly inspired by Joseph Campbell's show The Power of Myth (hence, the magic of myth) and his words have been pivotal for me on my journey to embracing storytelling as a way of life.
So what should you expect?
Well, everything! I'll be discussing stories in the mainstream culture from movies, t.v. shows to music & visual arts and how we are constantly influenced by stories in our personal and professional lives. The goal w/ this new playgroun is to explore stories in all of her glorious forms & find inspiration to tell our own whether that's for our brands or our beings.
Like I said, there is no fixed agenda here, just an intention of cultivating a magical playground where I can add a dose of enchantment to your Monday evenings and talk about the Magic of Myth!
