What does it look like to work together at Zehra Studio
Well... it is a process 🙂
Once the client signs the contract & pays the invoice, we hop on an on-boarding call walking them through our systems & timelines. We use Slack for most of our communication + ClickUp for project management, this is where we set timelines, list out all the tasks and upload files for review.
Before we produce anything, we start with understanding who you are, what it is that you sell & for whom. To do this, Taylor, my design partner, created a very comprehensive form (hosted on the beautiful Typeform app) which we send to our clients right after they are on-boarded. This usually takes a week or two depending how well versed they are with their business. If there are hurdles, Taylor hops on a call with them & hashes out any & all matters of confusion. Once we get crystal clarity, Taylor writes up a brief that is then uploaded on ClickUp for the client to review. If they have any requests for revisions, Taylor makes those changes, if there aren't any & we get the green light, I hop in and start creating the creative direction.
During the creative direction process, I do research in terms of the competition, current design trends, as well as the soulmate client preferences. Then, I start conceptualizing three directions for the client to choose from. The first one is usually the safest choice, the second one a little risky and finally the third one is the boldest, wildest concept that I am always hoping the client would pick because... if it doesn't scare you then what's the point?
This is when things start to pick up.
As soon as the client choose their brand's direction, we start producing. We start by picking colour palettes & type pairings. We always present in 3s so that the client has a choices, because who doesn't love choices?
Once we finalize the colours & type pairings, we head to the identity design stage of the project. We start with the primary logo design in Adobe Illustrator, again with three choices + revisions, then we design the secondary & sub-mark logos.
Now, depending on the package the client has purchased, we move on to the other phases of the project, mainly being the collateral & web design.
When it comes to web design & dev, I run the show. I start with the similar process I have for identity designer whereby I research, see what's up, consult with the buyer's journey we have conceptualized & create a very detailed wireframe on Adobe XD. This is the only time, I don't present in 3s thanks to the comprehensive nature of developing a website. I do however give 3 revisions so that we can ensure it is on-brand and resonates with the clients and their customer base. Once we finalize the prototype design, I begin developing it from the ground up on Webflow.
While I am developing the website, Taylor designs the collaterals that the client picked. These collaterals vary based on the brand's needs. We usually design what to create based on the overall brand strategy, particularly focusing on the buyer's and client's journey.
This is where things start to look... real.
We can see the entire brand come to life & as a final coat of icing on the cake, we begin our implementation period. During this period, we allow our client to test out the goods by putting it in the real world. If there are any discrepancies, we rectify them & iterate to ensure it is purrrfect!
And voila!
We have successfully cultivated close to 8 brands this year, since we launched in April. And I feel so blessed to have been given the opportunity to do so. With each client we partner up w/ we learn something new & use the knowledge to better our processes. If you have any feedback on our process, please do drop them in the comments. I'll probably be re-posting this video multiple times in the future as we continue to evolve our design process so if you wanna follow along, make sure to subscribe 🙂
Stay tuned for more magic!
